Somerset Schools Disrupted by Snow and Ice: Closures and Delays
Schools across Somerset are facing disruptions this morning, Tuesday, January 7, due to heavy snowfall and icy conditions. The Blue School in Wells has announced a delayed opening following overnight snow in the area.
According to the Somerset Council website, the Blue School will begin classes later today, starting with period two at 10:30 AM. The statement reads: “School closed until 10:30 AM due to poor weather and local traffic conditions, including road closures around Wells. School will open at 10:30 AM for period 2.”
Meanwhile, Whitstone School in Shepton Mallet has confirmed a full-day closure due to the adverse weather. Other schools across the county may also be affected as conditions worsen.
A yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office remains in effect until 10:00 AM today. The forecast warns of widespread travel disruption, with several major A-roads reported as “impassable” due to heavy snow and icy surfaces.
